We headed with PADEE – WHIA to the island of Crete to visit the NATO Marathi Pier Complex / Souda Bay Hellenic Naval Base with Commander Periklis Piyis. This site allows the U.S. to provide naval support in the area, while in turn providing the U.S. with strategic access to an all-weather airfield, deep-water pier facility, and refueling supply services in the eastern Mediterranean. Partnerships like this with the Hellenic Armed Forces enhances interoperability and readiness for the both of us.
